We’re doing our best to keep warm here at The Sass Wellness Spa, but the chilly season can affect more than just the body. Our minds can begin to feel that cold front moving in too. Luckily, we have a few tips to help you cope during these winter months.
What is Mental Wellness?
Psychological wellness or mental wellness is a combination of the connections you make with others and, most importantly, with yourself. For example, how you connect with yourself emotionally, your family and friends, and your career. It also includes how well you cope with your environment, in this case, winter.
As the seasons change, our senses take time to get used to the drops in temperature, the increased time indoors, and, of course, all the soup! So, we usually react with irritability or even strong anxiety. That’s why it’s important to check in with yourself regularly by prioritising your mental wellness.

Can I De-Stress on the Couch?
Boosting your mental wellness doesn’t need to be a daily hike up Lion’s Head. There are plenty of simple activities you could do on the couch after work or just before bed.
Mindful Breathing
We breathe without thinking, but to breathe mindfully is a great stress reliever. Put down your phone. Close your eyes. Breathe in for 3 seconds. Hold it for 3 seconds. Exhale for 3 seconds.
Pay Attention with Body Scan
Using all your senses and being aware of your body brings you into the present moment and allows you to take stock of the day. Look around the room. Feel all the sensations in your body. Smell all the aromas around you. Take everything in then breathe it out.
Keep a Triumph List
Keeping a triumph list is a great way to keep yourself motivated throughout the day. Whenever you complete a task, scratch it off. By the end of the day, check the list. You’ll feel a comforting sense of accomplishment.
Can I Boost My Wellness at Home?
We love at-home treatments because nothing beats essential oils, face masks, and scented candles in PJs.
It’s always a great idea to keep those feet warm with a soothing soak. A warm bath with eucalyptus, tea tree, or lavender would create an aromatic and calming atmosphere after a stressful day.
