From wine grape farm to beautiful wedding destination,
Contreberg Wine Farm is that charming site where families can get away from the
demands of everyday life. Where old friends can reconnect over award winning
wines. Located between Atlantis and Darling, Contreberg’s many offerings are a
short drive away.
Since Michael and Eleanor Pretorious took over the farm in 2016, their vision of turning Contreberg into a thriving wine estate has been hugely successful. With multiple award-winning wines under the Contreberg label and rustic accommodation for guests to enjoy, the estate has also become a popular wedding and function venue.
The Estate
Entering through the gates. You’re transported to a rural gem of an estate complete with pastoral farmhouses and buildings where you can enjoy wine tasting indoors or outdoors. Indulge in a warm Roosterkoek with classic jam and cheese or choose from other varieties. Afterwards take a stroll through the gardens and breathe in a simpler life.
The Accommodation
There are accommodations that offer a longer escape from modern complications. The Manor House can accommodate up to fifteen people at a time. The perfect spot for family bonding over a braai surrounded by beautiful oak trees, a plentiful garden, and vineyards. There are also smaller units for couples and friends like the Darling Ivory or The Arum Lily which sleep two and five respectively.
The Venue
The immaculate lawn and spacious courtyard surrounded by pristine farm buildings make for the ideal wedding ceremony venue. Contreberg offers two wedding packages according to the couple’s needs. Both packages include use of the venue until midnight.
The estate also hosts small and large events with custom packages for each occasion. Contact them on their website for enquiries.
The Owners
The owners’ passion and personal involvement in Contreberg
is what sets it apart from other estates. “This is not simply a business to us.
We are personally involved with our guests, our clients and our wines. Over the
years, many of our customers have become friends, and that is something we
treasure deeply,” says Eleanor.
Contreberg is a reflection of its owners. A wine estate with two equally excellent focuses. “Michael is passionate about the vineyards, the grapes, the soil and, of course, the wine,” says Eleanor. “I love the people, the celebrations, the weddings and everything that goes into creating those unforgettable moments.”
"We are also excited to introduce our newly rebuilt and beautifully styled Contreberg Cottage, which can now accommodate an additional 8 guests. It is the perfect place to slow down, relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the farm."
The Wine
The Atlantic Ocean is close by bringing in cool breezes that help with the ripening of the grapes. With a Mediterranean climate and a mixture of well-drained soils, the region is perfect for wine cultivation.
Contreberg began producing its first wines in 2018 and has won multiple awards. Notably for its renowned Sauvignon Blanc 2023, which won two Veritas Silver awards in 2024:
“A vibrant and expressive wine … showcasing crisp acidity, tropical fruit aromas, and a mineral finish.”
Another award winning wine includes their Shiraz 2022:
“Rich and bold ... deep concentrated flavours of dark berries, spice, and a hint of oak."

Contreberg is the result of the combined passion of its owners and their steady focus on bringing quality and rustic charm
to their wine, accommodation, and venue packages. So take a step away from modern distractions and experience Contreberg for yourself.
